Updated: Jul 24, 2019

The National Gallery of Australia is the biggest art gallery in Australia and houses many of the worlds most important and famous artworks. These include “Impressionism Sunrise” by Claude Monet, and “Blue Poles” by Jackson Pallock. These artworks are revered and respected by the artistic community as some of the most impressive of their times and are valued immensely.

The National Gallery was developed in the beginning in 1970 after cabinet approval and was opened by Her Majesty in 1983. It is arranged into three levels, the building is made of bush hammered concrete and the design is modern. It has a multitude of floor coverings including wood and concrete slates.

The artworks in the gallery belong to many movements including but not limited to impressionism, expressionism, abstract expressionism, fauvism, pop art and modern art, including optical illusions.
