Parliament House - Day 3

Parliament House is the current home of democracy in Australia, Located on Capital Hill in Canberra. It’s iconic flag reaches nearly 100 metres tall, which is similar to both the Statue of Liberty and Big Ben. The landmarks iconic design marks the dead centre of Canberra, with the capital being designed around the building. It was opened on 9 May 1988 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia. Taking 10000 people and 7 years to construct, it’s 250000 square metre floor area makes it one of the biggest buildings in the Southern Hemisphere and cost more than 1.1 billion to build. When parliament is sitting, over 4000 people can be working in throughout the offices at any time. The building plays an important part in Australia’s democratic system, and acts as a meeting ground for politicians to discuss and debate matters that affect all Australians.
